Some names are more than a place, they embody a way of life.
Why Saint-Tropez?
For Philippe Charriol, founder of CHARRIOL, Saint-Tropez represented everything he loved about the South of France. Born and raised in Aix-en-Provence, he spent many of his younger years driving to the small fishing village, long before it became an international destination. As the decades passed, Saint-Tropez became synonymous with French elegance, femininity, freedom, and an irresistible sense of joie de vivre, glamorous yet relaxed, sophisticated yet carefree.
For Philippe, it also carried a deeper meaning: the Mediterranean sun as a symbol of optimism, vitality, and happiness. He returned year after year with his family, and that tradition continues today.
When he created one of CHARRIOL’s first ladies’ watches in 1983, the name came naturally. Saint-Tropez perfectly captured the watch’s personality: feminine, elegant, joyful, and unmistakably French.

Inspired by golden light, seaside glamour, and the effortless chic of the Riviera.
Born from a Dream of the Mediterranean
At the heart of the French Riviera lies an enchanting harbour of sailboats, sun-warmed streets, and timeless summer splendour. Saint-Tropez evokes a mood, devastatingly chic French summer style and it was this atmosphere that inspired CHARRIOL’s St-Tropez® watch.
A tribute to the flair of Brigitte Bardot in And God Created Woman (1956), St-Tropez® was created as a watch with the soul of jewellery.
In the 1980s, Philippe Charriol pioneered the style of wearing a watch alongside a jewellery bracelet or chain on the same wrist. This vision led to a true bijoux montre: a watch and bracelet combined into one. He also made full use of the steel cable’s flexibility by eliminating the clasp, leaving the strap open-ended for a refined, fluid fit. The signature marine chain, integrated into the strap’s fastenings, is both a distinctive design signature and a practical safety mechanism.
The essential codes of St-Tropez®, where watchmaking meets jewellery.
