History of Charriol
Charriol
Established in 1983 by French entrepreneur Philippe Charriol, in Geneva, Charriol is a global prestige brand of timepieces, fine jewellery and accessories distributed worldwide. Our signature motifs include the Celtic Collection & iconic cable designs.
A certain mood and attitude translated into the motto: The Art of Living Differently. Welcome to Charriol. Welcome to the high life.
1983 - 2013: 30 years
Vivacious and epicurean, passionate and hedonist, Philippe Charriol’s approach to life has informed the creation of his eponymous watch brand. With a deep appreciation of all that life has to offer, Philippe’s cultural and sporting passions lie at the source of Charriol collections, so that each watch or jewellery item is crafted with artistry and infused with meaning. This ethos is summed up in the Maison’s motto, The Art of Living Differently. Charriol is also proud of its family heritage: Philippe works alongside all family members, another ‘difference’ that distinguishes this global luxury brand.
For 12 years, Philippe has been accompanied by daughter Coralie, Vice-President of jewellery and leather goods. Son Alexandre is Artistic Director, and wife Marie-Olga Charriol brings the brand’s feminine ethos to Charriol’s publicity and events. As captain of the ship, Philippe remains staunchly independent, a sure-fire way to stay creative.
Swiss made, French style
Charriol timepieces are true Swiss Made watches and are all hand-assembled in the brand’s watchmaking atelier in Geneva, the birthplace of horology. Each timepiece is characterised by its qualities of precision, quality, luxury and authenticity, and after small beginnings, Charriol is now a global luxury brand whose products are appreciated and recognised the world over. Charriol also stands out through its design: often fusing the ancient and the modern world. Watches and jewellery draw on the worlds of art and sport, an adventurer attitude or a romantic spirit.
These designs are underscored by a creative mix of technology and materials, notably the Maison’s hallmark material, the twisted cable, made from superior stainless steel and titanium alloys. The timepieces, for men and women, can be paired with jewellery and accessories, in a glamorous product range that is loved and coveted near and far.
Charriol’s Celtic heart
Early on in the creation of his brand, Philippe Charriol was inspired by a visit to the British Museum, where he had been enthralled by the Snetisham Torque, a superb example of early Iron Age Celtic metalwork. Wanting to pay homage to this great legacy, over the years, Charriol developed its own interpretation of this ancient design. The motif was reworked via new technologies and materials; today, Charriol’s ‘twisted cable’ design is now globally patented and recognised as a brand hallmark.
Charriol employs the twisted cable design in a multitude of applications, across timepieces, jewellery, writing instruments, eyewear and leather goods. It appears as a pretty adornment around a bezel, watch case, or worked into a stylish strap. Crafted from stainless steel and titanium alloys, the cable is unique – the essence of Charriol’s DNA.
